Big roads, empty footpaths, no pollution,  greenery around, mild weather and absolute safety - it feels blessed to be walking. And such walks invariably result into some philosophical thoughts.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Five -Six months after I'd bought iPhone, I was walking to a friend's place. He used to stay near Tokyo Tower which was a good 5 km from my home. And I started thinking how much dependent I had become on iPhone. I could not imagine a train ride in the morning without bbc news podcast, nytimes and wsj, lunch without checking twitter and facebook, evenings without songs, weekend train journeys without games, songs and maps. I didn't know how I was surviving before iPhone. Medium of entertainment after a period becomes a prime dependency. Think of the internet. How did people stay in foreign countries when there was no Internet? What did people do when there were no radios? 150 years before that, when there were no newspapers?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Fast forward by one year- and am actually surviving w/o iPhone. Started listening to radio in Mumbai, but the old charm is gone. There are 10s of channels, but none can make me want to tune into. Marketing has taken precedence over content. RJs think lack of knowledge and preparation can be hidden if they use slang and bright adjectives.&lt;br /&gt;In the sadness that this realization brought, I remembered the AIR days -Vijay Raghav Rao's flute recital caught on Hubli or some such station out of pure luck on a quiet late night, Satish Vyas's unforgettable Chandrakaus broadcast,  Harsha Bhogle's thrilling commentary of the Hero Cup semifinal, beautiful unheard Marathi songs played in the morning on Mumbai station.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And then I thought of finding these Marathi songs on internet which I  could never  find in any music stores. That completes a circle- a new medium giving me back what the old medium had introduced to. Here's a list of the Marathi songs that I found-&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. This song I'd heard in 90s. But blogging in Marathi is difficult. Not sure how others do it. Do they write in Marathi on paper and then just copy that?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Of course this depends on what kind of stuff you are writing. If it's a story, probably you have some rough structure ready in your mind and  then you write it. If it's a suspense story or somhing with a twist at the end , then generally writing is executed as a project with all the drafts and characters ready. Same for novels.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The question here is more about free form of writing. Something akin to what I've seen on Abhijit Bathe's blog.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I see more and more bloggers , who write something else than just a diary kind of stuff, are leaning towards this kind of free form of writing. To a certain extent this is nice.  But there's a danger there- when you feel the need of reading something that has entertainment value, this kind of writing cannot satisfy it. Of course, somebody could argue that it is not written with the intention of entertaining others. The writer writes because he needs to ; not really for the readers.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Where are those master storytellers who have a story to write and who are first and foremost catering to the readers? The discipline of FA is a fantastic one. You have to be a Sherlock Holmes to be a good analyst. Observing the facts as they are - which is not as easy as it sounds; you'll realize this only after you've burnt your fingers at least once and your postmortem reveals that you failed to notice something very simple which caused the damage-, using these observation to build your theory, patience, confidence and at the same time humbleness to be a student forever are the characteristics that make one a good FA.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;More than anything else, FA needs common sense. Apply simple things in life to the market and results will be amazing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I think the reverse is very true as well. Looking at the market, it's obvious that taking no risk could be one of the biggest risks. A time comes when you unknowingly start singing it to yourself in mind. In a passing moment you sing some line of the song without realizing or try to give rhythm on your table. The difference between singing the line to yourself or aloud is blurred for that moment. Somebody around you gives you a puzzled look. You are not in a mood to explain. "अभिषेक-ऐश्वर्या कुंडलियाँ मिली" ही यांची breaking news. जर शेतकर्यांच्या समस्या, आत्महत्या या बातम्या मुख्य नसतील,त्यांना बातमीपत्रांत जागाच नसेल, तर लोकांना त्या कळणार कशा? सरकारला त्यासाठी जाब कोण विचारणार?  da vinci code ला विरोध आणि फना गुजरातेत प्रदर्शित होत नाहीत या मुख्य बातम्या आणि मृत्यूंचे उल्लेखही नाहीत. प्रसिद्धीलोलूप लोकप्रतिनिधी तरी कशाला या मुद्दांवर बोलतील? तसे मृत्यूंचेही उल्लेख होतात. कोणी एक नफिसा जोसेफ नावाची मॉडेल आत्महत्या करते, त्याची चर्चा चालते आठवडाभर. त्या बातमीच्या निमित्ताने अजून काही  celebrities च्या प्रतिक्रिया दाखवता येतात, तिच्या खाजगी आयुष्याचे वाभाडे काढता येतात आणि वाहिनीचा TRP वाढवता येतो. Times group च्या जैन मंडळींना तर क्षमाच नाही. It started with Prabhakar Karekar's concert in Akashwani Sangeet Sammelan (in Dec. 97, I guess). Veena Sahsrabuddhe's todi is awsome ('Suno more saiyaan'- record by Faountain i.e. Alurkar music house ).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This raaga belongs to Bhairavi thaat. That's why sounds somewhat similar to Bhairavi. M. Joshi's autobiography</title><content type='html'>Recently I read autobiography of S. M. Joshi, titled ' mi- s.m.'( Continental prakashan, first ed: 1984.) Simple and impressive. Probably the best autobiography I've come across. SM's simplicity, honesty and dedication leave a deep impression.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Also read 'Maze naav Bhairappa' by S. L. Bhairappa. Appears more like a novel! He was disciple of ustad Ali Akbar Khan. He entered the hindi film industry as an assistant for S. D. Burman. Later he started composing on his own. He became famous because of hum dono in 1961. Though he doesn't have a large number of films to his name, his works are really beautiful; a class apart.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In 1963 he composed music for the movie kinare kinare. The songs jab game ishq satataa hain &lt;ahref=http:&gt;and dekh li teri khudai can be found on musicindiaonline.com. On the same site, all the songs from the movie gaman are available. Raat bhar aapaki yaad aati rahee sung by Chhaaya Ganguly is a personal favourite. Missing on the site is the beautiful song raat bhi hai kuchh madhdham madhdham sung by Lata (don't know movie name). Just when I was trying to figure out what were the problems with it, I came across some other blogs. At least a few simple things I need to follow. Top of them is writing complete sentences! Casual sentences with only verbs, or only adjectives seriously hamper the flow of an article. At least that thing will be corrected from this post onwards.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In Marathi, I love the writing style of Govind Talvalkar, Anant Bhalerao and Vyankatesh Madgulkar. Both Talvalkar and Bhalerao were editors of renowned Marathi dailies. Their styles are simple, but still almost impossible to imitate. Madgulkar also had a very simple and effective style. According to PuLa, when you are reading any of Madgulkar's works, you feel as if he is talking to you. And that's where the success of his style lies.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another stylish author is VaPu Kale. Though I am not a fan of him (in fact, I dislike him) his style is definitely one of the best. Few other names that should be added to list of stylish writers are Shirish Kanekar, Chi. Vi. Joshi and Mangala Godbole.(I can remember only these name right now). It was marvellous! Naturally, I started looking for his other works. Laid hands on 'deception point'. This book is also quite nice. But then  'digital fortress' happened. Utterly hopeless one. Reluctantly got "angels and demons". (Now, if I can spend time on those third-rate Sidney Sheldon novels, why not angels and demons? ) Boring and lengthy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But then, as an author Brown's progress is remarkable. From a terrible book like digital fortress, he's travelled up to the Da-Vinci code. It's true of nicely written academic books as well. Today read few topics from " Survivable mesh networks " by W.D.Grover(PH-PTR). The subject has been beautifully treated.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Also reading " haravlele diwas [eka maaji communistache atmanivedan]" (Marathi, by Prabhakar Urdhvareshe). Rare one to get.May be out of print now. At times though the book beomes biased, makes a good read overall.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Wish to write here in Marathi.
